The Skinny on Saving Face

n145531850986_8243One of the kajillion things I love about Twitter is my friends sending me great finds I may not have found on my own. After all, the Internet is a big place. One such example is my friend @adambrooks who sent me a link to an article on SLATE about a woman who is writing a chick lit novel in one month and is asking for everyday folks to help her get it done. Specifically she decided on the “mom lit” genre, which is what I write.

Dahlia Lithwick officially had by attention.

Writing a novel in one month is actually doable – a first draft anyway. You have to put in about 3K per day, but even the nationally-renowned NANOWRIMO only requires 75K of fresh words each November to be considered a winner. What I believe makes Dahlia’s task even harder is sifting through the feedback from the readers. On the research side it could be beneficial – I asked Twitter to help feed me character names recently – but it will be fun to watch how she handles keeping up with the site and reader “suggestions” with the actual fingers on the keyboard/brain in the story aspect of writing.

dahliaIf you’re on Facebook, you too can be a part of it. At the very least let her know we support her. We wish Dahlia the best of luck and look forward to her finished product. BEbabes gives her a big Atta-babe! We’ll even give you a Mimosa Toast when the manuscript is complete.

  1. NaNoWriMo only asks you to produce 50K words, not 75K!

I would never have the confidence to post my draft as I wrote it, though. Go Dahlia!
