I’ve read some Book End Babes have been putting together girls nights out and hitting the multiplexes to see Pretty in Pink, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary. (Can it be? Seriously?)
Today marks the paperback release of Susannah Gora’s book, “You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried: The Brat Pack, John Hughes, and Their Impact on a Generation” which was a BEB Top Pick last year. Oh, man, you are so up my alley. I graduated high school in 1986 so I can pretty much recite any 80s movie by heart.
“Dong. Dong. Where is my auto-mo-bile?”
“Auto-mo-bile?”
I watched Sixteen Candles with my teenaged daughter–who may or may not be named after Molly Ringwald’s character (Samantha)–just the other night. I even have photos in my albums of “Jake’s” butt when he turned his back on the camera to get into his car. (That was a favorite thing to do at slumber parties–pause the movie and everyone got out their cameras.)
I also love Sixteen Candles because I think that was Joan and John Cusack’s first movie and it’s so fun to see them being such background characters.
Other 80s faves: Ferris Bueller, Breakfast Club, Weird Science (watched that every Friday night at someone’s house for 3 months straight (VCRs were a brand new thing)–and we’d all yell out: “How’d you like a greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ashtray?”)

Love, love , love all the John Hughes movies! Who doesn’t? I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched Sixteen Candles. My all time favorite movie. I can’t wait until my 5 yr old daughter is older so I can watch it with her! Those movies are the best. Some Kind Of Wonderful is another favorite. The list goes on…. Breakfast Club, Weird Science, and you can’t forget Christmas Vacation. The Griswold’s! So excited about this book!
My love for 80s have molded me into the Awesome 30 yr old I am today! I live 80s on a daily basis!! Thanks to Susannah, for going out and getting us diehard 80s fans the scoop on behind the scenes and up close and personal and the funny heartfelt stories, we long to hear! Pretty in Pink is most definitely in my top FIVE favorite 80′s flicks! Actually 3 of the 5 are John Hughes movies. I have referred to Pretty in Pink since my 5 daughters started dating. “Don’t overlook the “Ducky”.” Almost 30 years after I saw Pretty in Pink for the first time and I’m STILL bitter that she didn’t choose Ducky!! Fortunately, my daughters (after seeing the movie) take my advice to heart and are either dating their “Ducky” or still looking for him. Obviously, the movie still holds up…not only as far as friendship goes, but how to look awesome on a dime, how to use your creativity, how to be yourself, how to deal with adversity and that not everything in life is handed to you on a silver platter….sometimes you have to WORK for it. It’s just a GREAT movie. Good music, funny, good storyline, good acting…and as I said….it stands the test of time!!
I love the 80′s teen movies they are the best. Right now I have them all written down and look them up almost everyday. I can’t get enough of them. My Fav’s so far are Pretty in Pink( I watch this everytime I see it on) which is all the time. And I think the movie gets watched more and more everytime it comes on. It’s still a hit. I will never get tired if it. Well, my other fav’s are The Breakfast Club( Judd Nelson looks super cute in this one), St. Elmo’s Fire, Sixteen Candles,Adventures in Babysitting,The Goonies, License To Drive, and last Lucas( I love The two Coreys) R.I.P Corey Haim. But for now these are the only ones I have seen. But trying everyday to see the rest. The 80′s teen movies are “AWESOME”, and forever will be. These movies will never die down. Neither will the people who played in them. These movies were welled played ans John Hughes did a good job as well. Once I finish watching the all. I will start all over from the begininng. I love the Brat Pack and the 80′s <3.
