With more than 175,000 new books published each year, there’s a lot of fish in the sea. Some whales – bestsellers – and more minnows than we could ever catch in our little net. Deciding which ones we’d like to feature each month isn’t an easy task, but we’ve donned our Vera Wang wading boots and we’re ready to reel them in. Okay, enough with the analogy.

With input from BEbabes members, queenBs and scouring loads of literature from book sites on new releases and hot reads, founder Malena Lott, book lover since 1977 and author of two mom lit novels THE STORK REALITY and DATING DA VINCI, makes the final selection each month. While the equation isn’t perfect and may vary, the four books will typically share one thing in common: books that entertain, inform and inspire women. Whether serious or snarky, hilarious or heartbreaking, our picks are sure to make you feel more alive. Does that mean they’ll all be women’s fiction? No. Does it mean they will be all written by women? No. Does it mean there will be LOVE in them? Sometimes. I mean, love is universal. Love, whether literary or popular or as the main story or a sub-plot, can be found in MOST stories.

We’ll try to spread the love among genres, time periods and styles so you’ll see a mix of literary, mainstream, historical and interesting settings. Fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, even the occasional self-help title may show up in there. Picks may occasionally be based on time of year as well as relevance to current cultural issues in our country or our world.

(I know about 200 authors, so obviously the math wouldn’t work out to feature them all.) Usually I’ve read the books I recommend, but sometimes not because I don’t have time to read them all, nor do I read every genre, which is why I gather input. Sometimes it’s a pick I want to read along with you. Together the four titles create an interesting little family, something for everyone.
