Five in the Hive with SOMETHING WICKED author Kelly Parra
In the latest YA anthology from Buzz Books, Kelly continues her story of Jaz and Blake, teen supernatural hunters in the short story, “Mermania.” You can catch their first adventure, “Darkness Becomes Him” in Prom Dates To Die For.
Why a story about mermaids? Kelly writes: “How can you not be fascinated with Merpeople? Part human, part fish. The many myths and legends that have created tall tales and not mention awesome movies. When I write a short story it’s as if I can write anything. Touch on any topic I would like. And for this collection I decided to have fun with my fascination with the mermaid.”

Recently we asked Kelly a few Five in the Hive questions and she was nice enough to play along.
Favorite “forget-the-diet” dessert? Rich chocolate cheesecake! Yum!
Book Character Crush? It would have to be Shane from Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampire series. He’s big and strong, but has a soft inner core. Those type of characters always pull me in!
One author you’d most like to shoot-the-breeze with? My dream meet would be with Nora Roberts. She is WOW status to so many readers. Love her stories and her confidence!
Pajamas with feet, or no? No feet! I mostly sleep with bare feet.
In a battle between Frankenstein and Dracula, who wins? I’d have to say Frankenstein. Deep down Frankenstein is just following orders. He’s big and stronger than Dracula. Maybe good prevails over evil? I like to think so!
About Kelly Parra -
Kelly (Lynn) Parra’s earliest stories were told with paintbrushes, but upon discovering the drama and forbidden love of romance and suspense novels, those paintbrushes were replaced with a keyboard. Now a multi-published author in young adult and romance fiction, she has created memorable characters such as a graffiti artist in Graffiti Girl, a psychic teen in Invisible Touch, and a tough undercover narc in her novel for adults, Criminal Instinct. A two-time RITA finalist, she divides her time between her novels, short fiction, and the adventures of motherhood, where she juggles her home life with two children, a tattooed husband, a sweet poodle, and a rowdy pit bull.
