The rest of the novel slips into familiar territory – heartbroken girl goes home, meets handsome fireman (who was a cad to her in high school), and pursues a divorce from current cad husband. But – surprise! – the IUI worked, so she just wants to just be “friends” with the fireman (who happens to already be raising a child not his own). The pregnancy itself provides the conflict – will it cause her to reconcile with Jack before she signs the divorce papers? Her skilled writing keeps the story sailing clear to the happy ending.
